Time: 11am - 4pm
Location: Standard Parts Studios

Workshop Description:
The Bay Area is bursting with a wide range of plants that can be used as dye material literally year round. This is a great way to tune into the flora of our region, to slow down and notice what’s in bloom, and to spend some time getting to know plants and their special pigmented properties. Come learn about some of our favorite plants that can be grown right here in your Bay Area garden and the array of colors they produce. You’ll learn the ins and outs of processing dye materials, selecting fabrics, how to treat fabric for dye absorption using mordants, calculating proper weights and proportions, and of course, dying the fabric! You’ll leave with a variety of organized dye samples, a bandana dyed with your favorite color, as well as recipes so you can easily reference and replicate these practices on your own. This is a great introductory class as well as a way for a practiced dyer to deepen knowledge of Bay Area dye plants. All skill levels welcomed.
Tuition: $135
